Lighthouse Sparrows ep “The Deep End” is ready and available from all major digital platforms. It’s 5 songs and 30 minutes of modern rock, maybe prog, maybe not 😉

Yes, three years went by. The Inertia album “New Obstacles” was released in 2018, after that the band was in a bit of a turmoil as Tomi decided to explore other avenues and we looked for a new drummer. I think it was around jan/feb 2019 when we found him. Adam, our new drummer proved to be a right choice, he’s a heavy hitter with a groove!
Well, Adam was the right choice but otherwise Inertia was stuck in a bit of a rut. After a few of quite lengthy pauses I decided to call it quits. So no more Inertia, but those songs will surface eventually!
Another lengthy project, the second album of SSTB is mastered and waiting to be released in a few weeks. The album’s called “Misplaced” and it has nine songs. This is how I describe it in the back cover:
“Misplaced was conceived during writing and arranging sessions @ T-Sonics Studio & Perfect Sound Studio in 2016-2017. Sami brought the songs and Teijo the insight and inspiration. After a bit of a hiatus, the parts were finalised and in 2019 the nine songs were delivered to Aki Sihvonen at Finnvox Studios for mixing. Aki proved to be the missing link in the chain delivering great mixes that opened up the songs. Mixes were done by January 2020. Then it was just a matter of some of Pauli Saastamoinens gold dust in mastering and the cake was done. Well baked!
What else? Lots of audio post, mainly mixing, some features, some documents, some series:
Baby Jane, Olen Suomalainen, Heinähattu & Vilttitossu ja Ärhäkkä koululainen, Aalto, Luontosinfonia, Bullets, Karppi season 2, Kalifornian Commando, Luonnonlaki, Bitter Love, Invisible Heroes, Typhoon Mama, Nti Aika, Beloved Daughter etcetc
One new project feels quite exciting; we made 5 songs under “Lighthouse Sparrows” moniker with my friend and colleague Olli Huhtanen. They’re modern prog (surprise!), the songs are composed and arranged, waiting for the recordings to start. We’ll see…
OK, ’til next time!
feels liquid…Half of 2017 already passed. OK, I have been quite active so no problem there. By my calculation 24 new songs in progress as we speak: 10 Inertia, 9 SSTB and 5 Eeva.
Inertia, my real band 😉 with buddies Tomi Laaksonen, Janne Laine and Tipi Pulkkinen, has been busy recording all the new songs. We recorded the drums at our former practise room @ Katajanokka, additional recordings were made at home studios. I asked my pal Hannu Leiden to help me out, once again. We’ve basically mixed all the songs and are waiting for Tomi to produce the cover etc material.
SSTB ie. me and Teijo Tikkanen are in well into pre production of the second SSTB release. We whipped 9 of my songs into shape and boy are they varied: from the QOTSA influenced “Trials and Errors” via “Forever and a day” with it’s nod to Power Windows era Rush to NIN tinged “My Companion”. Fun times are guaranteed when the two of us are working together! Early 2018 release…
Eeva aka Tiger Angle. Five of Eeva’s songs, sung in finnish this time around. With a solid duo of Lassi and Mikko on drums and bass respectively, I had a field day producing and arranging (and playing guitar and keys) with the talented miss Eeva. Late 2017 release.
• Released the Liquid Wolf “Second Wind, part 2”
• Mixed the second season of “Black Widows” + a few other things @ Cinepost.
• Mixed documentaries @ Kalevala.
Onwards, the rest of 2017 looks to be a busy one, quite a few mixes already lined up!
Sorry for the long absence. I’ve been flooded with work…Did the “Anna mulle Lovee”, mixed “Järven Tarina”, “Onnenonkija” and some other movies, did a mix of “Black Widows” (Scandinavian remake, 8 episodes) and some episodes of “Bordertown” etc etc. Luckily I’ve managed to squeeze time for Liquid Wolf (Drums with Kuoppis = done, brass with Pepa = almost done) and my newest pet project, Inertia. Inertia is old friends Tipi (FlipSide) on bass, Tomi “Laatu” Laaksonen (Kataya Live, KuDos) on drums and my fellow sound designer/musician Janne Laine on guitar. I’m doing some gtrs, keys and lead vocals. We’ve managed to whip 5-6 songs into shape and it’s been a hoot! Hope to have some recordings soon…Will start mixing LW with Samu this month, I hope!
Time flies, still. Chapter Two has been moving, but just a bit. FlipSide is slowly gathering new momentum. Liquid Wolf is probably the one that’s moving the most at the time, Kuoppis will come tomorrow for the first session. The new studios are working nicely, we just did a test run of the new Christie projector at Kalevala mix suite. Bright and sharp! I’m starting the post for “Anna mullet Lovee”, that will keep me busy for 6-7 weeks.
It’s been severely delayed but we’re still moving. As You may recall, the plan was to (re)do 4 of the old songs, Behind the gaze, Beyond the vision, Just another role and Wings of amor.
Well, we are – The original plan was just to do them as they were. It quickly became apparent that it was not such a good idea. Let sleeping dogs lie…,-).
The only plan that made real sense was to redo everything, starting from the arrangements. Sami did just that. The songs in effect became different songs. So the lyrics needed to be redone, not all together but some of the fiery youthfulness (i.e.. naiveté) needed to be weeded out. Sami and Hannu did that. As years had taken some toll of Hannu’s higher vocal register, the melodies needed to be adjusted. Hannu did that.
We’re now halfway there; Behind the gaze and Beyond the vision are done. So 2 more to go. Hopefully we get them done soon. As the songs progress, I wanted to change a few things still. The new songs will be under “Chapter Two” moniker ;-). And there will be some guests appearing who were not in the original line-up(s). The first one being Teijo Tikkanen, who will be playing piano on “Behind the gaze” at least. Some talk of female backing vocals has also been in the air.
So here we go!
The studio renewals have gotten to the point where PStudio is done. I hire Niko to help me move and redo Sandbox (aka Perfect Sound Studio aka PStudio) and the new Kalevala 2. and 3. We took down and moved 80% of the stuff to Maunula where it waits for the premises to be painted etc. I took some of my home gear and put it to good use next door. And vice versa. So now, once again, I have 2 units here, one upstairs and the other upstairs next door. The home unit has an UA Apollo, Macbook Air, small Genelec 8010’s etc. The Sandbox next door has the trusty DynAudio BM6A’s, Euphonix/Avid controllers, MacMini + Magma chassis for Pro Tools HD-X, some synths and of course my Kumu in the other room that used to have the smaller PT setup.
So the plan is to have music (and some small jobs) done here and all the real work, post etc at Kalevalastudio.
